Living Well Within the Church School Community - September
On Tuesday 10th September, Years 2 and 3 were delighted to join Deacon Helen lead the fabulous 'Knitted Bible exhibition and Life of John Wesley' at Trinity Methodist Chapel in Barton.
Groups were divided into 3 as we explored the carefully crafted exhibitions which we were brought alive by by storytelling from our guides. We were invited to wonder 'What is the most important story and why?' and place these reflections on a love heart whilst enjoying juice and a biscuit. Certainly a wonderful way to 'step into' the Bible in a way we've not seen before, and all agreed, a real treat!
As our vision is inspired by the amazing achievements of John Harrison, today's exhibition provided the visual feast to reflect on the life and achievements of John Wesley and take a moment to reflect on the shining lights of our local history.
As John said "Best of all is God is with us."

Developing Knowledge - for Staff! September 2019
On Tuesday 24th September, Gillian Georgiou (Diocesan Advisor) delivered a two hour training session about Hindusim to empower staff in confidently delivering high quality RE and hence, ensuring quality outcomes.
The 'powerful knowledge' that we learnt was great.
Being Godly - 8th October 2019
On Tuesday 8th October, Judy Dickin and her team from Lincoln Diocese delivered updated training for our staff to refresh, consolidate and improve the quality of the Godly play stories delivered for children and as such the impact this has. New stories, resources and of course immersive training were shared with plentiful time to discuss as a staff. A very relaxing staff meeting!
Consquently the rota has been updated and a new action plan agreed.

High Quality RE from Year 6 - November 2019
Take a look at these fabulous adverts for the UC unit 'Is God loving and Holy' that children designed in Year 6 after listening to inspiring Hillsong worship music. These would certainly grab your attention so well done Year 6.
Stand Together - Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January 2020
As part of our intent to not only give our children the best academic education, but to send them out to the world as respectful and courageous individuals, every year, Years 5 and 6 mark HMD. A piece of work is completed, giving time for exploration of the facts and a space in which to contemplate its impact. This year was especially poignant being 75 years since Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. See our reflective work.
We are committed to learning more and as such have booked onto the Holocaust Trust one day course in London for June 2020.
Returning Visit - Scunthorpe Pakistan Islamic Centre - 30th January 2020
On Thursday 30th January, Year 4 and 5 set off again with excitement to visit our friend Mr Ahmed and his beautiful Mosque. Children were welcomed and experienced placing their shoes into the racks before marvelling at the beautiful carpet pattern and learning about prayer mats. Mr Ahmed talked us through the 5 pillars of Islam, invited us to join in with the prayer prostrations of salah if we wished and allowed lots of time for questions and exploring. Children were particularly intrigued by the room for ablution.
This is our third year of visiting the Mosque and such was its continued success, that Mr Ahmed invited us to hold one of staff meetings there for staff CPD with the Imam and brothers plus take part as a school in the Inter faith peace celebrations in Sept 2020 for North Lincolnshire. We can't wait.
Returning Friends - Deepening Learning February 2020
Our friend Julia Beckett, a local humanist came into Year 6 to help them explore their unit 'Do you have to believe in God to be Good?' This gave the chance for children to ask their own questions and explore their thoughts whilst seeing a 'worldview' through the eyes of a non faith believer. Julia didn't think so; I wonder what you think?
This topic was so exciting that we thought we might use it as a focus for our summer debate with local school, Barton St Peter's, for our 'Big debate.' Watch this space!
Everyone Loves a Delivery! - Especially during Lockdown - June 2020
Always wanting to enrich our curriculum plan by providing progressive and robust resources for staff, plus inspiring lessons for our children, we were excited to pre-order the new 'Picturing Muslims' resource from REtoday.
Whilst lockdown prevents us from delivering the whole school theme day we wanted, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be back on track for Inter-faith week in November.
Rooted Within the Words of Christ - Lockdown Projects
During these unique times when we are apart we have thought especially about words of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and used our firm foundations as a church school to set up projects for our children at home.
Boxes have been thoughtfully left in the shelter for childrent to safely drop off their wonderful work after email challenges have been sent home. What a smile it has brought to all of our faces to be together whilst we are apart.
How true of our vision: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13.
A New Way of Learning - Home Learning in RE
The situation that we find ourselves in has created new and exciting challenges that, by working together we can ensure quality learning still takes place. Countless organisations have offered excellent home learning packs within the Christian spirit of fellowship - our friends at NATRE being one. Thank you!
