Collective Worship Spring 2
Our worship theme this half term is Lent and Easter. This gives us the opportunity to explore different values as well as the life and teaching of Jesus.
We will also be celebrating Racial Justice Sunday. If you would like to explore the theme of racial justice at home, you might find this video useful. https://youtu.be/GfwUWSYC5A0 We will also be using the story of Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman.
Collective Worship Spring 1
Our worship theme this half term is the value of compassion. We will also be celebrating the feasts of Epiphany and Candlemas.
If you want to explore the theme of compassion at home, you might find this video from Faith at Home and the compassion Home School Values worksheet useful.
Epiphany
Our collective worship leads led a wonderful Epiphany service at Holy Trinity Church. They explained what the feast of Epiphany is about and invited children from each class to share their ideas about what we could give as our gift at Epiphany to make the world a better place. Ideas included smiles, kindness and helping others. Every child's idea was brought forward to place before the crib. A group of year sixes read an Epiphany poem and Reverend Liz finished our worship with a blessing.
One parent commented on how lovely it was to involve each class by inviting them to share their ideas and said that the service was, 'thoughtful and peaceful.'

Exploring The Theme In Our Working Worships
Candlemas
Year Two led a fabulous Candlemas worship in school this year. They told the story of Jesus' presentation at the temple and talked about how Christians believe that he is the light of the world. Parents were delighted to be invited to attend and complemented the children's confidence and the lovely atmosphere.
Year 2 invited every class to share their thoughts about how they can bring light to the lives of other people. The children's ideas were thoughtful and collected together to make a candle display.
Collective Worship Autumn 2
Our worship focus this half term is Advent and Christmas which gives us the opportunity to explore a range of values. We will also be marking Remebrance. Year Three will lead our Christmas worship at the end of the half term.
Open The Book
We welcomed the Open The Book team to school today. They told the Chirstmas story (linked to hope and advent) in a special Reception and Key Stage One worship. The Year Two collective worship leads started and ended the worship and other members of Year Two helped out with special parts. Thank you to the Open The Book team for visiting.
Remembrance
Year Six led a wonderful Remembrance Worship today. They wrote the worship to include songs, reflection and a bible reading about love and sacrifice. Some of the children read their poppy poems and others explained why poppies are linked to Remembrance. The children also explained why we sell poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion. They presented the large poppy collages which have been created using a poppy made by every child in school. One of these will be displayed in school and the other has been taken to share with the community at church. Each class had a representative to bring a poppy forward to be added to our collages during the worship and the choir sang a beautiful and moving song.
We are very proud of the children for the reverence and thoughtfulness with which they led the worship. This was reflected in the two-minute silence held with the whole school outside at 11am.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
Mary Visits Elizabeth
Our worship value this week has been Joy. We have read the story of Mary visiting Elizabeth to share her good news and reflected on times that we have had good news to share. Year Two made this collage sharing their moments of great joy.

Worship At Church
Reception and Year One walked to church for their worship this morning. It was wonderful to introduce them to our special place. The children thought it was amazing to be there. A representative from Year One started the worship by lighting our candle. We reflected on places that are special to us, said a prayer of thanks and then enjoyed a moment of peaceful quiet.
Christingle
We celebrated a wonderful Christingle worship this week. The Year Six Collective Worship Leads planned the worship which was led by Collective Worship Leads from all year groups. Every child in school had made their own Christingle craft (for example, collages and pictures) to share at the worship and the class Christingles were lit for a moment of peaceful reflection, followed by the Christingle song. We have made the decision to make Christingle crafts to reduce food waste and to give the children the opportunity to be more creative. We think they have done a fabulous job!

Christmas Story books
A huge thank you to our friends at the Methodist church who provided these lovely story books for our children.
The First Christmas Journey
Our First Christmas Journey assemblies are a truely spiritual way to explore the Christmas story. We hear about how the characters looked back and remembered and looked forward with hope and reflect on our own memories and hopes. At the last assembly, we all walk the Christmas road and take a moment to pause at the candles, each of which represents a character in the story.

Collective Worship Autumn 1
Our worship focus this half term is Respect which is one of our church school values. We will also be celebrating International Day of Peace and reflecting on British Values. Year Five will lead our harvest worship at the end of the half term.

International Day of Peace
On the 21st of September, we celebrated the International Day of Peace. Our collective worship leads planned and led a worship which they chose to hold in the Peace Garden. The theme this year was 'End Racism. Build Peace.' The Collective Worship Leads linked this to treating people with respect and embracing differences to end racisim and bring about peace. They read Matthew 7:1-5, 12 and chose the song Shalom which the school sang beautifully. After a minute of silence, each class brought forward a link to make a chain of peace and then we ended our worship as we always do, with the sign of Peace in Makaton and the children's chosen sign of sending peace to the world.
Afterwards, a member of staff spoke about how peaceful and reflective they had found the worship. It truely was a moment of calm in a busy world.
Year One's Respect Poem
Year One performed a poem about respecting others and celebrating difference.
Harvest Worship
It was fabulous to welcome parents and carers to our Harvest Worship which was superbly led by Year Five. They planned a worship which involved singing, acting and reflection. Every class was invited to take part by bringing forward an item of fruit or vegetable to be placed inside a basket. On each item, the year five class had written a question and the children shared the answer from their class during the worship. Year Five also asked the Key Stage 1 and Year 3 choir to perform songs which celebrated the hard work of farmers at harvest time and the wonderful variety of food (particularly beans) that can be grown. 'God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.' Genesis 1:31
