Leavers' Service
At the end of the summer term, we were able to invite all our Year Six children back to school for a final, socially distanced, collective worship at John Harrison. The chidren who were attending school in our year six pods helped to plan and lead this service, choosing songs that were special to them (including creating actions) and sharing their memories of friendship and learning at primary school.
Mrs Curtis spoke to the children about Jeremiah 1:5, 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.' She reminded them how special they are and to have confidence as they go on to the next stage of their lives.
Although we weren't able to invite parents to this event, we shared a photograph with each family. It was good to hold such a special event outdoors and to allow the children the opportunity to be together again.
Forgiveness Lockdown Project
The forgiveness word art produced by our children shows such a range of personal responses to the question of what forigiveness means to them that we felt it was important to show the individual pictures, as well as the collage that can be seen on our homepage. Super work produced during lockdown, both at home and in pods at school.
Finding A Way to Worship - Lockdown Summer 2020
This period of has brought many challenges our way, but one of the things we really wanted to solve was being unable to 'be together' at our special times of worship.
We have got round this by sticking to the rota plan but each pod being delivered a weekly ppt. by the RE/CW Lead that allows ALL children and staff to sing, worship and reflect together based around the same story.
This accounted for not being able to share Bibles, CD's in the hall for songs etc by everything being digital and has allowed us a unique opportunity to be 'a bit different!'
The attached document shows the amazing outcomes of last weeks Year 6 'Working Worship' on a Wednesday, and demonstrates the depth of impact even in 'tricky' times. As it says in Isaiah 43:16 "God will make a way."

Working Together 'Open the Book' - January 2020
January 13th saw another super visit from Open the Book group, the local MAAT (Methodist and Anglican Together) voluntary group who came to tell us possibly their most colourful story. Can you tell what it is? Year 2 were so inspired they made this classroom display.
Christmas by Year 4 - Holy Trinity Friday December 20th 2019
Miss Carrick worked with Year 4 to deliver another special Christmas service which focused on 'The Sounds of Christmas' and the 'clip, clop' of the donkey's hooves. As ever, the children spoke beautifully and animatedly bringing an age old story to life to a packed Holy Trinity. The choir, as ever, were a joy to listen to. A lovely end to a busy term.

Open the Book comes to JHS! Monday 2nd December 2019
We are always striving to make worship inspiring and engaging, allowing children to be immersed in the wonderful stories of the Bible yet have time to contemplate it's wonder, whatever this may mean to them. Open the Book at Barrow is a new storytelling group led by Deacon Helen and the fabulous volunteers from Holy Trinity Barrow so you may recognise a few faces.
Staff and children alike loved the audience participation sections (see the sad and happy face lollipop!) and enjoyed the age old story from the Lion Storyteller Bible of Christmas. We cant wait for another visit.
Something New - The Advent Spiral comes to JHS
On Monday 2nd December 2019 the first advent spiral for each class took place. You'll notice no pictures of the actual event here but that it because it is a special moment for each adult and child alike. A moment to enter the darkened hall to the haunting latin chants of gregorian monks and walk the lit path of pebbles to receive the advent light from Mrs Curtis. The opportunity for each individual's spirituality to flourish is there...whatever each shall take from it.
The picture displayed is the impact on a Year 2 child who asked to make a replica of the spiral in class.
A Moment of Reflection - Lest We Forget Monday 11th November 2019
As the time of year comes round again Year 5 led a heartfelt service blessed by Rev. Nichola. A moment of stillness for all.

A Little Piece of Church - February 2020
Ever mindful that our hall is a multi purpose space yet the heartbeat of our school, the old puplit from South Ferriby Methodist Chapel (previously bound for the skip!) was lovingly installed as a permanent feature in our hall.
It helps us focus on our hall as a space for worship and reminds us of our church school roots. In time, we hope to add a lectern frontal too. Doesn't it look lovely?

Worship Tokens
Children expressed the need for a reminder each week of the topic in worship to help build up their termly theme and hence feed into the end of term Wow Worship. These tokens are the result.
