It was lovely to recieve so much positive feedback from our parents during the lockdown. They thanked the staff for their support and hard work and told us how excited their children were to recieve their daily emails. We have put together the most frequently used words into this picture.

Sunflower Seeds: Embedding our vision

During the coronavirus pandemic, all of our children were given sunflower seeds and this message linked to our school vision. We wanted to make a connection with the children that extended beyond our homelearning, and also to remind them about how proud we were of them all, even when we couldn't see them at school everyday. 

It was lovely to receive photos of growing sunflowers and proud children over the weeks that followed.

The school joined in with this year's virtual wheelbarrow event by displaying a wheelbarrow that showed the school community projects that had been taking place during lockdown.

Reflective Art

Please look closely at my picture:

  • The white bit with the words on represents all the thoughts in your head and all the things we’ve been hearing. Some are not there fully because they are rushing through your brain.
  • The iris is all the positive things when we look deeper because there is always something positive. I made it colourful to show it is positive. I drew a rainbow because children are drawing them at the moment so everyone has a reason to feel happy.
  • The pupil is the earth. The top is dark and grey because that is how everyone feels but the hand holding it is looking deeper at the positive things and showing brightness.
  • Since thinking about things might make you emotional, I turned the arm into a tear.
  • The eyelashes are similar to the earth/pupil. The tops are barbed wire because it feels like we are trapped and not safe but the bottoms are colourful because like I have already said, there are positive things.

Strong Community Links- Lockdown Kindness April 2020

The unprecedented times of lockdown due to the coronavirus brought many emotions to us all. This unannounced gift was so kindly delivered from our local Methodist church to the key worker children at John Harrison as a gift to keep them going.

It was so unexpected and such a thoughtful gift to know that our friends in the community - who we can no longer see through 'Open the Book' visitor worships etc are still with us.  It brought a lump to the throat for staff and an enormous smile to our children.

Author Virtual Visit

One of our key worker pods had a virtual visit from author Richard O'Neill before the end of term. The pod had shared some of his books before the visit and were very excited to meet him. They were thoroughly engaged by the talk and enjoyed asking the questions that they had prepared. Afterwards, the children were buzzing with excitement and had clearly gained a lot from the experience. We are very grateful to Richard for giving up his time to inspire our children with a love of stories.

School Badge Project

The Year Six pods have renovated the school badge located near the staff car park. They have done a super job and we will remember them every time we look at it. Thank you to Mr Skipworth and Mrs McCafferty and her family who helped the children to complete the project.

Welcoming New Children

The Reception children that returned to school in the summer term of 2020 worked hard to design and write postcards to help welcome the new group of children who would be starting school in September.

Tie Presentation

Normally, the Year Fives receive their ties at the leavers' service on the last day of term. As this couldn't take place this year, the Year Sixes sent letters to the Year Five pupils to present them with their ties ready for September. They included advice and encouragement for the new year six class and put lots of smiles on their faces.

Certificates

At the end of term, all of our children received a certificate and badge to celebrate their hard work and achievements.
